The Xicoy X45 Turbo Jet was the first Xicoy Turbines engine development, released in June 2019. It is a real, fully functional kerosene burning jet engine in miniature, designed for low weight and small bulk for use in small model RC jet aircraft. This very small jet turbine engine (see statistics below) is aimed at retrofitting the small 90mm EDF foamy jet market and incorporates all the latest thinking in mechanical aeronautic design, digital electronic control and software developments making it one of the most advanced engines on the market. The engine has a very low installed weight of less than 400g, a tiny case diameter below 60mm and just 165mm from tip of starter to end of exhaust. It boasts an amazing maximum thrust up to 45N (user presettable from 25N-45N) which is 4.5kg or 10LBs, surely enough to satisfy most jet jockeys flying the small & not so small jet planes around 5-6.5kg / 12-14lb auw. The extremely low residual thrust of 1.8N / 0.4lb at idle helps with those landing approaches. Its small footprint and low installed mass aids easy EDF conversions with good options for install positioning and is ideal for twins such as the A10 or ME262. The engine is fully self contained with internal kerostart meaning it can start and run on liquid fuel, kero or diesel, and incorporates built-in valves so no external plumbing needed. A single 3-wire cable & one 4mm pipe are the only connections needed for the engine. A smart, replaceable fod screen is supplied as standard to protect the small compressor against FOD. The engine incorporates a high speed brushless starter which helps the engine to show an amazing start-to-idle speed just under 25 seconds, from initiation. A sub miniature, intelligent brushless fuel pump eliminates any need for any fiddly setup adjustments. There is no external ECU as this is built onto a small PCB housed on the engine. The battery (2S Lipo preferred or 3S LiFe, not included) connects via a small external unit (Hub) which the battery plugs into together with the fuel pump, plus a display (if used) & any additional functions that are added beyond the basic setup, such as telemetry modules, sensors etc. The Hub is available in two options - boxed with a neat 2-line b/w miniature display built in (Compact), or the Lite package using a plug-in full colour graphics display with additional memory function. The Lite installed light package weighs 470g. The Compact package just 488g. The control system is a completely new single wire control development using the latest extremely fast and powerful electronics and digital controls. There is no compatibility with any previous Xicoy FADEC system. This enables the very latest, most capable & fastest micro-controllers to be used. This gives a system which is highly adaptable & has formed the platform for all future Xicoy engine products.
